At Kalkat, our mission is to create a more sustainable and ethical future for the textile industry by producing organic surface of non-animal origin neither derived from petroleum and technical thread using innovative and eco-friendly processes. We achieve this by removing, revaluing, and repurposing food waste into organic sheets through intentional partnerships.
Kalkat is a forward-thinking company that specializes in producing organic sheets and technical thread using natural resin from a sustainable alternative to rubber trees. Our unique approach helps reduce the environmental impact of the textile industry, while also supporting local communities in the Catalunya region of Spain.
We are collaborating with the University of Lleida in Catalonia for R&D to ensure that our products are not only sustainable, but also of the highest quality. Our organic surface and technical thread will be using a natural resin from a sustainable alternative to rubber trees with a harvest period of two years, compared to seven years for the Hervea brasiliensis. The competition right now utilizes petroleum-derived products. Global leather industry emissions are more than 2x those of air freight, so investing in Kalkat is not only a sustainable choice, but also a climate action play.
